PUBLIC STRESS TEST

This particular stress test demo is for one of my protagonists, Cyanser as Raviel still has ways to go but for now I can continue to publicly test this one. I have an older public test demo on itch.io released a few months ago that was more of a playground, this demo is a test action stage. I continue to search for honest constructive feedback on where to improve, what to add and the bugs occur during gameplay to mold this project well. I am a solo game designer so that unfortunately means I am handling the game development cycle on my own with incremental freelance help over time. I moved over from Game Maker, Unity and Unreal Engine to Godot so there are still things to be learned on my end about the engine. The encouragement of speedrunning is also welcomed (only because I appreciate the art of speedrunning). There are two routes that will lead to the goal at the end of this action stage test build so there is at least a form of replayability.


WHAT IS PHASE NEXUS?

Phase Nexus is an upcoming fast-paced 2D action-platformer starring speedster Cyanser and teleporter Raviel (once again not playable yet). Think of a fever fusion between games such as Sonic (without the loops), Viewitful Joe, Ninja Gaiden and Luminous Avenger iX/White Steel X. In terms of mechanics and movement from those games, they blend well surprisingly.


ENEMIES???

The enemies for Phase Nexus are still currently in development but actual behind-the-scenes progress are being made for the time being.


COLLECTIBLES???
Collectibles are finished, although the UI itself is a WIP.


KNOWN ISSUES OR CERTAIN THINGS THAT I AM AWARE OF SINCE TWO DEMOS I HAVE RELEASED

  • CERTAIN PLAYER ACTIONS DO NOT PLAY WELL WITH CERTAIN PLATFORMING GIMMICKS OR IN THIS CASE OVERRIDES THEM.
  • IN THE PREVIOUS PUBLIC TEST AND THIS ONE, I DISCOVERED A COUPLE OF GAME-BREAKING GLITCHES CAUSING THE CHARACTER TO SOFT LOCK, I ADDED IN A RESPAWN FUNCTION TO ALLEVIATE THIS SOMEWHAT. FOR EXAMPLE, PLEASE AVOID POWER STOMPING ON THE LAUNCH PAD.
  • THE REBOUND AND AIR DASH MECHANICS ARE IN A WORKING STATE, HOWEVER, THE AIR DASH IS EASILY SPAMABLE (I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S EVEN A WORD) AND REBOUNDING CAN BE A BIT UNSTABLE. PRESSING THE JUMP BUTTON CAN CANCEL OUT OF REBOUNDING.
  • THIS IS MAINLY INTERNAL FOR THE GODOT ENGINE BUT I HAVE COME ACROSS AN ONGOING ISSUE WHERE THE HEIGHTENED NUMBER OF PIXELS IN A SCENE CAUSES THE RENDERING TO CHOKE OR BOTTLENECK THE ENGINE ITSELF. I AM STILL INVESTIGATING THIS AT THE MOMENT FOR A LONG-TERM RESOLUTION.
  • YES, THE VISUAL TILEMAPPING IS NOT PERFECT BUT I HAD LIMITED TIME WITH THE FULL-TIME JOB SO I HAD TO MAKE SACRIFICES, HOPEFULLY SOON I CAN OPERATE WITHOUT LIMITS AND MORE RESOURCES.
